Dr Bahijja Raimi-Abraham

Founder & Director

Dr Bahijja Raimi-Abraham is a pharmacist, Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at King’s, Founder of King’s College London Fight the Fakes and Academic Lead.

 

She leads her research group 'The Raimi-Abraham Group'.

Dr Raimi-Abraham is the first graduate of the University of East Anglia School of Pharmacy to be awarded a PhD and was the 2018 recipient of the Outstanding Woman in STEM Precious Award.

 

Dr Raimi-Abraham is a Board Member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Great Britain (APS).

Dr Raimi-Abraham recently founded and hosts Monday Science, a weekly podcast which discusses the latest in Science, Health and Technology. Monday Science recently received funding from the Royal Society of Chemistry towards a project aimed at opening conversations about diversity in chemical sciences and engaging the public with chemistry using creative approaches.

Hanna Hakansson

STEAM Researcher

Hanna Hakansson is a researcher for STEAM:ED Collective. She aims to encourage conversation and engagement in STEAM through the assimilation of the Sciences and the Arts. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Translational Neuroscience at University College London. 

 

Previously, Hanna has been involved in researching the therapeutic roles of hormones and psychedelics in mental health conditions, and most recently, the genetic determinants of neurodegeneration.

 

"Having read the personal accounts of individuals suffering from devastating mental health conditions and Dementia, I want to contribute to STEAM:ED Collective's mission of widening the public's awareness of ongoing research. I believe that artistic mediums would be powerful to increase the accessibility to research in a way that fosters intrigue and conversation."

 

Outside of research, she likes to relax by baking, reading and FaceTiming her cats in Denmark.

Sara Yu Chew

STEAM Researcher

Sara Chew is a second year Biomedical Sciences undergraduate at University College London (UCL) from Malaysia, focusing on the study of control systems.

 

She joined STEAM:ED to pursue her passion for encouraging and emphasising the critical consideration of scientific research and data presented to the public, as well as for uniting STEM and the arts, especially concerning the collaborative nature of music and mathematics in education.

​

She has a keen interest in the field of neuroscience, developmental neurobiology and biotechnology, and their applications in current research and healthcare.

 

She previously gained shadowing experience at Sunway Hospital, Malaysia in the cardiology, endocrinology, and general surgery units. She has also interned at Alpha Malaysia, a non-profit organisation, as part of the team planning and hosting a 3-day youth conference. In the past, she has volunteered as a children’s nursery assistant, as well as at a street-feeding programme.

​

She is particularly fond of music, being a eager violinist and pianist, skills which she believes have instilled in her a deep appreciation of the intrinsic innovation and creativity shared by STEM and the arts. Her other hobbies include creative writing, photography, and embroidery.

Sofia Iglesias Lobatch

Social Media Manager

Sofia Iglesias is a second year student at the University College London (UCL). She studies Bioprocessing of New Medicines with Business Management.

 

She is originally from Spain but has been living in the UK for the past 4 years. She joined STEAM: ED Collective as she is very passionate about the arts and has a particular interest in the different STEM disciplines.

​

She joined the organization as the Social Media Manager as she is willing to make STEAM: ED Collective more visual to everyone:

​

“I am very excited to start creating content for the organization as I personally find the mission of STEAM: ED very captivating. I’ll do my best to provide juicy posts almost every day of the week. My goal is to boost up the social media of the organization as much as I can by finding where STEM and art meet.”

She has volunteered previously at Grove Cottage (school for disabled people). She used to volunteer once a week by helping in the Performing Arts lessons. In her free time she likes painting, playing the piano, dancing and figure skating. She is interested in marine conservation as she is very concerned about plastic pollution. She is always looking for opportunities to contribute to the planet.

Mark Crampton

Social Media Manager

Mark is currently studying for a masters in Pharmaceutical Formulation and Entrepreneurship at UCL. From Dublin, Ireland he has been based in the UK for the last 5 years having previously completed a degree in Biochemistry at the University of Bristol in 2019.

"I wanted to get involved with STEAM:ED collective as I believe it is important to make STEM research engaging, accessible and fun! In addition, as someone who studies science but also loves art the aspirations of this enterprise really motivate me. As Social Media Manager, I am excited to share content, spread awareness and increase the following of STEAM:ED collective. "

​

Mark's other interests include music, reading, drawing, and running. He also considers himself a yoga enthusiast.
